Vertigo (52:10)
One of our most contentious editions yet is the 54th AFI Top 100 podcast. It was an unloved “flop” in 1958, but it’s a revered classic 56 years later. Settle in for a lengthy gab-gab about Hitch, Kim, Jimmy Stew, and their tale of love, lust and lunacy.
I’m actually a huge fan of this film, but I have definitely enjoyed more in subsequent viewings (perhaps 6 or 7) than I did the first time. Major point of agreement: that Kim Novak ha the toughest job in the film and gave an underrated performance.
Bev, I heard the same theory that you had in this podcast, but he doesn’t say where he got it from. I think it makes sense because the 3rd part of the film doesn’t hold up very well. he also talks about a theory where the whole film is a dream
