Saturday Night Fever (1977)

Rated R for language that’s right in line with this movie’s oft-brutal tone.

The 55th Next 100 Project podcast (and our 200th podcast overall) takes us to ’70s Brooklyn and drops us in the disco scene. John Travolta’s star-making performance, with all its machismo and dancey talents, is easily the best thing about the flick. It’s hard to argue against the authenticity of the rape scenes or the racism, but man, that material makes this movie a rougher experience than you might expect from a disco flick. Stay alive with Sparkplug Coffee and then activate that white suit.

For The Record: Gene Siskel and John Travolta are actually about the same height.
